About GCT:

CRT is the North American stocking distributor for GCT’s Diamond Coated Tools. GCT GmbH (www.gctool.com) has been delivering their diamond coated carbide tools for over ten years. As of 2016 their annual volume has exceeded 1.2 million pieces and only continues to grow.

Diamond Coated Tools offer many advantages. They have provided new machining options that provide cost savings. Our diamond coated tools are increasingly being used to successfully machine in a growing range of materials as well as industries.

GCT offers drills (as small as .010”) routers, single and two flute end mills (as small as .012”), thread mills, countersinks, chamfering cutters and much more.

Production Process:

The video found below shows different views how we go from uncoated tungsten carbide tools to premium quality MicroSpeed diamond coated tools. Beside the actual diamond coating process and the different wet chemical pre-treatment, additional steps include:

  • Inspection of the tungsten carbide tools
  • Different in-process examination
  • A static load test
  • Complex 100% optical final inspection of every tool is required to ensure consistent and high process capability in the large lot production.

MicroSpeed Diamond Coating:

The GCT MicroSpeed diamond coating is composed of different crystalline and nano-crystalline layers. The MicroSpeed coating is built up in different thickness and layers depending on application, tool diameter and geometry.

The multilayers are produces in a CVD (chemical vapour deposition) process on dedicated carbide grades.

Properties of MicroSpeed Diamond Coating:

  • High level of hardness of 10,000 HV0.05
  • High heat conductivity
  • High surface slip
  • High dimensional accuracy and process capability
  • Extreme abrasion-resistant

Advantages of MicroSpeed Diamond Coating:

  • Longer tool life **
  • Considerable cost savings (due to longer tool life) .
  • High dimensional accuracy and process capability as a result of minimal tool wear
  • Possibility to process new material types and/or materials which are difficult to machine.

** tool life increases by factor 6-20 in mechanical processing of PCB materials, IMS, aluminum, copper, CFRP, GRP, glass, quartz, ceramic, and silicon.
